japanese calligraphy ink on paper

m.c. and i spent a lot of time together in college. we were in an introductory bio class my first semester. we would talk about many things, including art, religion, sex and sexuality, race, anything. it turned out that even though we had met through a bio class, we ended up working together on some performance pieces and conceptual pieces. m.c. is a very contemplative person. i remember once sitting on the lawn outside her dorm, looking up at the rare ohio sun. she talked about how some people like to walk through life barefoot, while others just can't take off their shoes. somehow this memory has stayed in my mind, coming back to me in moments when i am frightened of exploring, or timid about feeling things. the idea of this piece comes from that conversation as well as the many conceptual art pieces that m.c. and i discussed very often during our college years.
