j.c. is a very skilled filmmaker. i worked with her for a short time while she lived in austin. one year, for a fundraising event, she was commissioned to create a 30-second short. the scenario ended up including the famed austin bats. in the summer, folks gather under congress street bridge around 8:30pm as the "largest urban bat community" flies out en masse from underneath the bridge toward east austin. it is quite a sight, though you have to squint to see the tiny hoard of black specks against the blue-black sky. i helped j.c. film some scenes from this short. she ended up naming it "austin says good-bye." j.c. left austin less than a year later. i miss her and have an itchy feeling that she might miss austin, too. so this piece plays on the tltle of that short along with conveying a kind of "missing you!" sentiment. i used images from the austin free weekly, "the chronicle" as well as mail strips that lead mail to our address here.
