c.d. is one of my favorite people. he is also one of the most talented. i've known him for several years now, ever since college. he is a gifted musician and an excellent performer. he composes music for other people. he also writes and sings songs that you can listen to in the dark, over and over, letting the waves of emotions wash over you. i remember listening to a song he wrote while i was driving from ohio to massachusetts. i was on the way to see my mother who was in the hospital. it was only a few days after 9/11. c.d.'s song came on and i began bawling in my car. as dreary as that might sound, i felt very comforted. i remember being in class with him and learning how vulnerable he let himself be in his music. one of the first pieces of c.d.'s i heard/performed was called, "closing statement" and consisted of improvising on the words: "i miss her so much everyday." this piece is an homage to his. i hope that he can perform it some time, even if just in his apartment.
