| a.y. is another student from my last semester at UT. he was often cracking jokes in class. one thing about him that impressed me very much was his performativity. he was able to embody many different archetypes. i encouraged him to continue along this vein throughout the semester. for his final project, he created a short performance piece that involved him embodying the model minority stereotype and presenting a powerpoint slide show on his life. it was a kind of forest gump meets long-duk dong affair. he pulled no punches and other students in the class couldn't help but laugh despite themselves--even at the most un-p.c. material. this picture is a portrait of the character a.y. performed. s |
